Robert Coltart/Coulter statue on unveiling day in Market square Galashiels

The song "Coulter's Candy" (Ally Bally Bee) was made up by Coltart to advertise his wares
whilst peddling his sweets in Galashiels and surrounding towns, Coltart was a weaver by trade in the
nineteenth century, but when he became unfit for work, he chose to sell his famous candy around the towns.
He was a very colourful character, wearing a fancy patchwork waistcoat and a variety of hats
he is depicted here wearing his "Big Lum Hat" as referred to in a version of the song:

"Here comes Coulter down the street
A big lum hat upon his heid
He's been roon' aboot a' the toon
Singin' and sellin' candy"
